Monk Cleaning Services lists skylight cleaning among its services and welcomes commercial rooflight enquiries across the North West. Start with the rooflight location, the surfaces you want cleaned and any existing access information. Rooflights require an assessment of their surroundings and the proposed approach before a cleaning scope can be confirmed.

Identify the rooflights you mean

State whether the request concerns a small number of individual units or a series of rooflights across a larger building. Use a roof plan, building name or bay reference if available. Explain whether the rooflights are glass or another known material, but do not guess their specification from appearance alone.

The outer surface and the internal face should be described separately. Inside a warehouse, rooflights might sit over stock, machinery or a working aisle; in an office extension they may be above occupied desks. Photographs of the interior should include the space below and any fixed obstructions.

Use existing information for the enquiry

Existing drawings, maintenance documents and photographs can help explain the arrangement. Tell us about any access restrictions and who holds the building's relevant information. There is no need for you or your staff to go onto a roof to collect measurements or photographs for an initial request.

HSE identifies rooflights among potentially fragile roof surfaces. Access must therefore be considered as part of the job, not assumed from the presence of a roof hatch or a nearby ladder. The assessment determines the practical approach and whether the requested surfaces can be included.

Explain the problem you want addressed

Describe visible surface dirt, accumulated deposits or a general maintenance requirement. Also report any known damage, leaks or misting that appears to be within a unit. Cleaning an accessible surface does not replace a building inspection or repair, so these observations help keep the request focused on an achievable cleaning scope.

Where rooflights sit above a working area, tell us whether stock can be moved, machinery has restricted operating periods or a site escort is needed. For a larger property, a marked plan linking rooflight references to the spaces beneath them is especially useful. It connects the external layout with the internal operation.

Rooflight cleaning questions

Can rooflights be cleaned with ordinary windows?

You can include them in the same enquiry, but identify them as a separate part of the specification. The access, material and working space may differ substantially from the vertical windows around the building.

Do I need to know the cleaning method?

No. Supply the site information you have and explain the desired scope. The method follows the assessment; choosing equipment in advance can overlook important restrictions in the building or the area below.

Can you quote for a recurring programme?

State that preference and identify the rooflights to be included each time. An initial review of their condition and access is needed before the proposed programme can be defined. Any roof repairs remain a separate requirement.
