How to compare commercial window-cleaning quotes

Practical information to help you plan the work, prepare your enquiry and agree a clear commercial cleaning scope.

Request a quote

Compare commercial window-cleaning quotes by matching the work before comparing the price. Put the included glazing, initial condition, visit pattern and access assumptions side by side, then resolve any gaps with the supplier.

Create one comparison sheet

Use the building and elevation names from your enquiry as the rows. Give each supplier a column and record what their proposal actually includes. Leave an unclear item marked as a question; do not fill it from an assumption about what window cleaning normally covers.

Compare Question to resolve
Glass and surfaces Are the same windows, doors, frames and sills included?
Inside and outside Does each price include the same internal rooms and glass faces?
First visit Is the initial condition covered separately from maintenance?
Access What preparation, permissions or separately arranged access is assumed?
Programme Are the number and scope of visits comparable?

Test the difference with a small example

Suppose proposal A describes external shopfront glass, while proposal B includes the inside display surfaces and entrance doors too. The prices are attached to different jobs. Ask for the scopes to be aligned, or decide explicitly whether the extra internal work is wanted, before treating the figures as competing prices.

The same problem appears when one proposal includes a first clean after vacancy and another assumes the windows are already maintained. Describe the starting condition consistently and ask how any unusual residues are treated. A lower maintenance figure cannot answer an unpriced first-visit question.

Read the assumptions beside the total

Check how taxes, optional services and any separate access costs are presented. Identify what the site must provide, including room release, clear working areas and the necessary permissions. These arrangements can affect whether the proposal is practical even when the glazing description matches.

For a recurring service, compare the agreed pattern rather than the price of one attendance alone. Ask how a missed access opportunity, an added surface or a changed building will be handled. Use the actual proposed terms; do not assume one supplier's arrangements apply to another.

Close the questions before accepting

  1. List unclear or inconsistent items in one message.
  2. Ask for the supplier's written response against each item.
  3. Update the comparison sheet with the clarified scope.
  4. Keep the accepted version with the building's window schedule.

The objective is a proposal that the buyer, site contact and cleaning team can interpret the same way. Price becomes more useful once the work and responsibilities are stable.

Quote comparison FAQs

Is the cheapest quote necessarily missing something?

No. Different businesses may price the same work differently. Check the scope and assumptions rather than inferring quality or completeness from price alone. Clear answers make a fair comparison possible.

What if suppliers recommend different visit frequencies?

Ask what presentation and access assumptions support each recommendation. Compare the same requested outcome, then decide which scope and programme fits the premises. A different frequency is a decision to understand, not just a number to normalise.
