Commercial gutter clearance and exterior washing explained

Practical information to help you plan the work, prepare your enquiry and agree a clear commercial cleaning scope.

Request a quote

Commercial gutter clearance concerns material inside the gutter channel. Exterior washing concerns the visible outside face and any adjoining surfaces included in the scope. State which result you want, or request both as separate tasks.

Start with the observation

If the gutter looks dirty from the ground, identify the visible face and the section affected. If you have observed overflow, describe where and when it occurs without assuming the cause. If existing maintenance records show debris in a channel, include that information and its date.

These observations lead to different enquiries. A wash aimed at appearance does not describe debris removal from the channel. Equally, channel clearance does not automatically include washing the gutter face, fascias or soffits.

Make the requested task explicit

Your concern How to describe the enquiry
Visible marks on gutter faces Request exterior washing of the identified runs.
Known debris in the channel Request assessment for gutter clearance.
Both appearance and channel debris List washing and clearance separately.
Leak, sagging or damaged section Record the defect as an additional condition issue.

Cleaning and repair are distinct. Do not assume that clearance will resolve a leaking joint or every cause of water ingress. The enquiry should preserve the observed problem so the appropriate assessment can be discussed.

Identify every run included

Use building and elevation names rather than “all gutters” where the layout is unclear. Include annexes, loading-bay canopies and covered entrances if they are part of the request. A roof plan or existing maintenance image can help identify sections that are difficult to see from the ground.

Take new photographs only from normally accessible positions. Show the ground below the run, with parking, storage or adjoining land. Explain who can arrange access and whether any operational activity affects the approach.

Compare the quotation against the named surfaces

Check that the proposal distinguishes channel clearance, exterior gutter washing and any fascia or soffit work. Ask about unclear exclusions before accepting it. If windows or cladding are also requested, keep those on separate lines so the complete exterior brief remains easy to review.

Monk Cleaning Services assesses commercial gutter work across the North West according to the building, condition and access. Provide the site details and the intended result so the proposed scope and method can be confirmed.

Gutter scope FAQs

What if I cannot see inside the gutter?

Describe what you can observe and share any existing records. Do not climb or enter a roof area to prepare the enquiry. The team can identify what further assessment is needed.

Can clearance and washing be requested together?

Yes. Name both tasks and the runs concerned. A clear quotation can then show their separate scope and any adjoining surfaces included, making the proposed work easier to compare.
