Photographing a commercial building for a cleaning quote
Practical information to help you plan the work, prepare your enquiry and agree a clear commercial cleaning scope.
Request a quoteA useful set of building photographs shows where the work is, what glass is included and how it can be approached. A small labelled sequence usually explains more than many close-ups without location or access context.
Take the pictures in a logical order
- Arrival: show the building sign, entrance or unit number that identifies the site.
- Whole elevation: include the windows and the ground below them.
- Access route: show gates, passages, courtyards or a service entrance.
- Specific concern: photograph an unusual mark, finish or obstruction, then pair it with a wider view.
- Interior: show the room and items beside the glass if inside cleaning is requested.
Repeat the elevation and access views for each building included. Take pictures from places you normally and safely access. Existing plans or approved maintenance images are preferable to climbing, entering a roof area or crossing a restricted boundary for an enquiry.
Use labels that locate the work
Name files or caption them with the site, building and view. For example, “Site A – Block 2 – rear elevation” is more useful than a camera-generated filename. If a close-up shows a mark on one window, connect it to the wider image with a simple description such as “upper-left bay”.
For a small premises, a numbered list in the enquiry is enough. For a portfolio, keep each address in its own group. Do not mix photographs from several similar-looking buildings without labels; the wrong access image can change how a quotation is understood.
Add the facts that photographs cannot show
Write a short note explaining who controls the land, which gates are locked and when internal rooms are available. Say whether vehicles or displays normally occupy an area that was empty when photographed. Identify any temporary building work or planned change before the proposed cleaning date.
Describe uncertain materials or stains as uncertain. A photograph can show an appearance without establishing its cause or the appropriate treatment. The team may still need further information or a site visit before agreeing the method and price.
Review the set before sending
Check that each requested elevation appears at least once and that the images are clear enough to see the relevant features. Include a view of the ground beneath high glazing, especially where canopies, extensions or planting obstruct the approach.
Focus the pictures on the building. Avoid capturing people, confidential paperwork, screens or access codes. If site rules restrict photography, use an approved description or contact the responsible manager about information that can be shared.
Building photograph FAQs
Can I enquire before collecting every photograph?
Yes. Send the address, requested work and the useful images you already have. The team can identify which missing views or facts matter for your particular building.
Should I photograph windows from inside too?
Do so when internal cleaning is requested or an inside view explains an obstruction. Include the room layout around the glass, not only the pane, so preparation and access can be discussed accurately.
