Advice from Monk Cleaning Services
What should you move before inside window cleaning?
Good preparation is about the space beside the agreed windows. This guide separates small items you can sensibly move from furniture, fittings and high panes that need discussion, so you do not empty the whole house unnecessarily.

Prepare the window area, not the whole house
You do not need to turn the home upside down before an ordinary inside-window appointment. The useful preparation is local: make the agreed glass accessible, move small personal items where practical and explain obstacles that cannot simply be shifted.
Start with the scope of the booking. Preparing a room that is not included wastes effort, while leaving the main requested window behind a stack of boxes creates an avoidable question. If you are unsure which glass, frames or sills are included, clarify that before making a large moving plan.
Sort obstacles into three groups
Small movable items are the first group. These may include ornaments, loose papers, plants and delicate objects sitting on the sill or immediately beside the glass. Move only what you can handle comfortably, and choose somewhere secure rather than creating a new obstacle in the doorway.
Heavy or fixed items are the second group: sofas, desks, fitted cupboards and large dining tables. Describe them when they affect the approach. Moving these should not be assumed to form part of a window-cleaning service, and you should not attempt an awkward move merely to make the room appear ready.
Fitted coverings and unusual access are the third group. Blinds, shutters, roof shades and high panes need a clear description. If a fitting is stiff or damaged, explain that instead of forcing it. Dismantling coverings is a different task from cleaning the glass behind them.
Make a small holding place
A tray, cleared table or another suitable surface can hold the items moved from a window area. Keep items from one room together if that makes replacing them easier. Avoid putting fragile objects on the floor or leaving cables stretched across the route into the room.
This is a household organisation suggestion, not a requirement to buy equipment or storage. The simplest available place that does not obstruct the agreed work is usually the most practical choice. If you cannot clear a particular sill yourself, raise the question before relying on the appointment arrangements.
A hypothetical preparation plan
Imagine a living-room window with two plants on the sill, a side table nearby and a heavy sofa across part of the approach. The sensible first action is to move the plants and loose items to a suitable place. The sofa then remains an access question to explain, rather than a challenge to solve by dragging it alone.
For a second room with a normally operating blind and an otherwise clear window, the preparation may be much simpler. The difference between the rooms is the actual access, not a rule that every item must be removed everywhere. Confirm any specific requirements for the agreed job.
Remember the route into the room
A clear sill is only part of the approach. Check whether the relevant doorway and ordinary walking route can be used. Mention narrow areas, fixed steps or a room that will be occupied during the proposed visit. The person providing entry should know which rooms are included.
Do not share access codes in a public review or on a photograph. If an entry arrangement needs discussion, use the normal private contact route and agree the details directly. There is no need to leave security information attached to the general room checklist.
Keep unusual marks separate from preparation
Clearing a sill does not turn paint spots, adhesive or damaged glazing into routine dirt. If those are the main reason for booking, describe them in advance. Our builders-clean window information is relevant when the request concerns building residue rather than an ordinary household refresh.
For conservatory work, also distinguish vertical windows from roof panels. A room can be accessible at floor level while the overhead glass still needs a separate discussion. See conservatory cleaning if that wider scope is wanted.
A final preparation check
Before the visit, confirm the rooms, the person providing entry and any unresolved obstacle. Put away the small items you intended to move, but leave heavy moves and fitted components within the arrangements actually agreed. The internal window-cleaning service is the correct route for inside glass; exterior work should be selected separately if you also want it considered.
