Rain after window cleaning: what to note
A practical observation checklist for marks noticed after rain, with clear wording for a follow-up question.

Timing is useful context, but it is not a diagnosis
If you notice a mark after rain following a window clean, start with what you can see. Record which window, which part of the pane and what the mark looks like. The sequence of events is relevant, but the fact that rain came afterwards does not establish the cause of every visible spot or line. A factual description gives the cleaner something specific to respond to and avoids an argument built on assumptions.
Equally, a general claim that rain can never affect the appearance of glass is not a useful response to your actual concern. Your property, the surface and the observation matter. This article does not promise a weather-proof result or a particular follow-up policy. It explains how to ask a clear question about what you have noticed through the service you have arranged.
Establish which surface was included
Check the agreed scope before comparing the result. Was the appointment for outside windows only, inside windows only or both? Room-side fingerprints may remain visible through clean exterior glass if internal cleaning was not part of the work. A mark apparently within a sealed unit raises another question. You do not need to identify the cause yourself, but it helps to avoid assuming every visible effect is on the cleaned face.
The domestic window-cleaning information covers the exterior service. If the room-side glass also needs attention, see internal window cleaning. Keep a new request for internal work separate from a question about the result of the external appointment so both can be understood clearly.
Make the question specific
One clear example is often more useful than a broad statement that all the windows look wrong. Name the room or elevation and describe the pattern. Are there isolated spots, a line near the top edge, marks around a handle or a general haze? Is the appearance visible on one pane or several? If you do not know which face is involved, include that uncertainty rather than testing an inaccessible outside surface.
- Give the relevant appointment details that you already have.
- Identify the affected window or a representative example.
- Describe the appearance and when you first noticed it.
- Say whether the inside face was part of the original work.
- Mention any nearby decorating, building work or known glazing concern.
A photograph may help if the mark is difficult to describe. Take it from an ordinary safe position and include enough of the frame to identify the pane. There is no need to climb, lean out or produce a set of elevated close-ups. Ask what information would be useful if the effect does not show clearly in a normal photograph.
Use neutral wording that leads to a response
A hypothetical follow-up could read: “After the recent exterior visit and later rain, I noticed a line below the top edge of the rear kitchen pane. I am unsure which face it is on. The inside was not included. Could you advise on the next step?” That message states the timing without presenting an unconfirmed explanation as fact. It also distinguishes the original service from a possible additional task.
Keep any reply with your service record. If the cleaner asks a question about access, location or the agreed scope, answer that specific point. A useful resolution may be an explanation, further assessment or discussion of another service. Do not assume a remedy, return visit or guarantee before the actual issue and the applicable arrangement have been established.
Choose future cleaning around the service you want
A regular exterior service is a continuing arrangement for outside windows. The current regular external option has a minimum commitment of four cleans. That does not create a promise about future weather or apply to every internal or additional exterior task. Select it because you want the recurring service, with the relevant access and property details understood.
For an isolated concern after a visit, contact the business with the specific observation first. Clear location, scope and timing are the useful ingredients. They support a practical conversation about the real pane in front of you, rather than a general debate about whether rain is always harmless or always responsible for every mark.
