Preparing windows for property viewings: a practical plan
Choose the glass that needs attention, coordinate the rooms and confirm the appointment before building a viewing or photography plan around it.

Start with the glass you want addressed
Preparing for a viewing is easier when the cleaning request names the windows and faces that need attention. Look at the entrance, the rooms being shown and the glass doors used to reach outdoor space. Decide whether the request is internal, external or both. The inside and outside service information can help you frame that choice.
Keep the purpose concrete: you want the agreed glass cleaned and the rooms ready for visitors. There is no need to predict a sale result or assign a financial value to the task. A clear scope and workable appointment are more useful than a promise about how every viewer will respond.
Build a short priority route
Use the route through the property to organise your list. An entrance panel may need attention on a different face from a living-room window, and a garden door may have marks on both sides. Frames, sills, conservatory glazing and roof windows should be identified separately where wanted, so the viewing brief does not silently expand into every exterior surface.
If time or room access is limited, rank the requested areas. The priority list gives you a way to discuss a smaller scope if necessary. It does not oblige the cleaner to accept an unsuitable arrangement or mean the remaining work has been booked for later.
- Name each priority room or glass feature.
- State which face or faces are wanted.
- Identify known film, coatings or unusual marks.
- Explain what will be cleared beside the windows.
- Give the photography or viewing date as context for an availability enquiry.
Coordinate privacy and presentation
Curtains, blinds and displays affect both the room's presentation and access to the glass. Decide who will move or adjust them, and explain anything that should remain untouched. A request to clean inside glass does not automatically include blind removal, laundering or repositioning delicate furnishings.
Occupants may also want particular rooms kept private until the appointment. Agree which spaces are available and how access will be provided. If photographs are needed to explain an unusual window arrangement, frame the building feature and immediate working area. Personal papers, family photographs and the wider contents of the home need not become part of the enquiry.
Work backwards without assuming a booking
List any decorating, furniture movement, photography and viewings that affect the same rooms. Ask about a cleaning period that fits those activities, then confirm what has actually been agreed. A preferred date on a household checklist is not an appointment until the service arrangement is confirmed.
Consider this hypothetical example: a front room is being photographed after furniture is rearranged, while the rear room remains occupied. The useful brief requests inside and outside front-room glass, explains the furniture change and identifies when the room will be ready. It keeps the rear room out of scope unless that work is separately wanted and available.
If the photography date changes, update the cleaning contact only where the change affects attendance or preparation. Avoid circulating several versions of the plan with different room names. A short current list helps the occupant, property representative and cleaner work from the same description.
Treat unusual marks as a separate question
Some marks become more noticeable during preparation because furniture or curtains have moved. Describe them before the visit, especially if they may be paint, adhesive or a feature of an applied film. Ask for assessment rather than requesting a guaranteed removal as part of ordinary cleaning.
The one-off cleaning page is useful for a single planned refresh. It should still be clear whether the enquiry includes inside glass, outside glass or particular additional surfaces. Appearance concerns about seals, frames or the glazing itself may need a different conversation from the cleaning task.
Leave a usable plan for the day
Once attendance is agreed, prepare the stated rooms and nominate the person who can answer a practical question. Keep the route to the windows clear, explain any remaining restriction and make sure the current scope is available. If a room cannot be released, identify that room directly so the effect can be discussed.
Afterwards, return furnishings according to the household's own arrangements and keep any outstanding question attached to its window location. The aim is a prepared property and a clear account of the glass work, with no last-minute assumption that a viewing deadline changes the service that was agreed.
