Newly installed windows: prepare the cleaning handover
The first cleaning enquiry after replacement windows should carry the product information and remaining installation questions forward, not lose them at handover.

Collect the information while it is available
When new windows are handed over, ask for the product and care information before the installation paperwork is put away. Keep the window locations connected to those records, especially if different products were fitted in different rooms. The first cleaning enquiry can then describe the actual surfaces rather than relying on the general phrase new windows.
Useful details include the installer reference, product identification and any guidance about finishes, films or the timing of normal care. You do not need to extract technical specifications from an inaccessible label. Use the records already supplied and ask the installer to clarify anything that is missing or unclear.
Confirm what the installation handover includes
Find out which finishing tasks remain with the installer and when the windows are ready for the proposed cleaning. Labels, protective materials and visible residue should be mentioned individually. Do not assume that arranging a cleaning visit transfers every unfinished installation task into the cleaner's scope.
Give the actual status of surrounding work. Decorating, plastering or another contractor's return may affect when the glass and the space around it are ready. A simple sequence agreed between the people involved is more useful than choosing a universal waiting period that may not match the products or work.
Distinguish the surface from what is on it
A pane may have a coating or an applied film as well as a temporary label. These are different pieces of information. Say which features should remain, which materials the installer will remove and which marks need assessment. If you do not know what a layer is, preserve that uncertainty in the enquiry rather than treating every visible edge as removable packaging.
For example, 3M publishes specific care restrictions for its architectural window films. The relevant lesson is to obtain the guidance for the product actually installed. Instructions for a different brand or surface should not be substituted because they are easier to find.
Use a brief product-to-window handover
This hypothetical record shows the kind of information that can travel with a first cleaning enquiry. It is an organising example, not a diagnosis of installation quality or a recommendation for a particular treatment.
| Window reference | Information held | Question before cleaning |
|---|---|---|
| Front bedroom replacement | Installer paperwork and glass product reference. | Which care instructions apply to the requested face? |
| Rear door glazing | A film is listed in the installation documents. | Has the installer confirmed readiness for normal cleaning? |
| Kitchen window | A label and a small area of residue remain. | Who will address each item, and what is the agreed scope? |
If several windows are identical, one product reference can cover them when their locations are clearly listed. Keep exceptions visible. A later replacement pane may not share every feature of the surrounding windows, so avoid letting one old document silently describe the whole property forever.
Separate the first clean from installation questions
Describe ordinary dust and surface marks as cleaning observations. Keep concerns about fit, operation, seals or visible damage with the installer or relevant specialist. A cleaning appointment does not establish whether installation work meets an agreed specification, and cleaning should not be used as a substitute for that conversation.
For a one-off window clean, name the windows and faces wanted and flag unusual residue in advance. If internal work is included, explain the space beside the new windows and any protective coverings or equipment that remain. The internal service page provides the appropriate separate scope information.
Retain a small record for future care
Once the first work is agreed, keep the product references, relevant instructions and any unresolved question together. Record which temporary materials were dealt with by whom, using the facts you have rather than filling gaps from memory. That record gives a future cleaner or occupant useful context without requiring them to reconstruct the installation.
When the property settles back into normal use, review any continuing cleaning request against the new arrangement. A different opening, an added door or a changed access route may affect the description. Update that specific detail so the original window schedule remains useful after the installation team has left.
