Moving into a home: plan windows before unpacking
An empty room offers a useful chance to decide which glass needs attention. Build a first-week plan around access, priorities and the move itself.

Use the available space deliberately
Moving into a home creates a short period when some windows may be easier to approach from inside. Use that opportunity to decide which rooms need internal glass cleaning before furniture reaches its final position. The useful question is not whether every household task can be finished at once, but which window work fits the access and dates you actually have.
Start with the internal window-cleaning service and describe the rooms and glass faces wanted. Moving into a property does not by itself define a whole-home cleaning package. Doors, frames, sills and unusual glazing should be named where they matter to your request. Keep unpacking, general room cleaning and window cleaning as separate entries in your moving plan.
Make a first-week priority list
Walk through the rooms you can normally access. Identify glass you will see and use immediately, then note windows that will soon sit behind furniture. A bedroom needed on the first night may have a different priority from a spare room that will remain clear. This is a household preference, not a fixed rule about which room must be cleaned first.
Record three things beside each priority: the faces wanted, when the room will be available and what may obstruct it. A removal delivery changes availability even when the house is otherwise empty. If decorating or fitting work remains, give its actual status rather than describe the property simply as ready.
- Choose the rooms that matter during the first week.
- Identify inside glass separately from outside glass.
- Note doors, bays or additional glazing that need their own description.
- Keep a workable route from the entrance to the requested rooms.
- Confirm who can answer a question if the moving timetable changes.
Work through a hypothetical move
Imagine a household moving on a Friday. The living room is clear beforehand, the kitchen is already in use and a bedroom will receive large furniture on moving day. The household wants internal bedroom and living-room glass addressed, but has not yet decided on exterior service. A useful enquiry describes those two rooms and the period when access is available, rather than asking for all windows before Friday without further detail.
| Stage | Practical decision | Information to retain |
|---|---|---|
| Before furniture arrives | Identify priority internal glass and clear working space. | Room names, requested faces and available dates. |
| During the move | Keep boxes and delivery activity out of any agreed route. | The person coordinating access and changes. |
| After settling in | Review whether continuing exterior cleaning is wanted. | A separate exterior scope and any access questions. |
This example illustrates a sequence, not an available appointment. Confirm the cleaning arrangement before making the removal programme depend on it. If the date moves, explain what has changed about the rooms and access as well as the preferred timing.
Keep unknown window details visible
A new occupant may not know whether a pane has film, a coating or a particular operating restriction. Use product information left with the property where available, and describe unknowns plainly. A visible mark or stiff opening is useful to mention; it is not a reason to test an unfamiliar window or make a cleaning diagnosis.
Photographs are optional when a short description explains the property. If an unusual layout needs clarification, a wider view of the window and surrounding space is usually more useful than a close-up alone. Avoid including personal papers, the contents of moving boxes or access details in the picture. Take it from a position you can reach normally.
Choose the later exterior arrangement separately
Once the household is established, review the exterior glass and normal route around the building. The domestic service information explains the available scope. An internal appointment during a move does not automatically create a continuing exterior arrangement, and an exterior service does not silently include room-side glass.
If you choose regular exterior window cleaning, the minimum commitment is four cleans. Keep that decision distinct from the first internal visit. A simple record of the rooms already addressed and any unanswered product or access questions will make the next conversation easier once the boxes are gone.
