Automatic entrance doors: glass cleaning and system care

Define the glazing task around an automatic entrance without treating a window-cleaning visit as door maintenance or a system inspection.

Monk Cleaning Services

An automatic glazed entrance labels its glass surfaces and door system separately, with operation assigned to the authorised site process.

Describe the glazing task precisely

An automatic entrance combines glass with an operating system and a busy route through the building. A request to clean the entrance should identify the surfaces wanted without implying that the cleaner is being asked to service, adjust or certify the door. Start with the glass faces, adjacent fixed panels and any visible frame surfaces included in the proposed scope.

Then identify the person responsible for the door's operation and site arrangements. They should be able to provide the relevant product information and explain how the proposed activity will fit the entrance's use. Do not treat a familiar sliding-door appearance as proof that its controls, settings or operating procedure match another building's system.

Use the actual product instructions

GEZE publishes user guidance for its automatic door systems that distinguishes user information from maintenance and repair by authorised experts. The practical lesson is to use the instructions and responsible personnel for the actual installation. A general cleaning article is not a procedure for changing door modes, isolating equipment or overriding sensors.

If the entrance has a known operating fault, raise it through the appropriate door-service route. Cleaning the glass should not be expected to correct an intermittent opening problem, a damaged component or a fault indication. Share the relevant restriction with the cleaner so the proposed task reflects the current condition rather than the assumption that the entrance is operating normally.

Put the scope and site process side by side

Cleaning information Site information
Moving and fixed glass panels included Person responsible for the entrance system.
Inside, outside or both faces Agreed procedure for making the area available.
Visible frames or adjacent panels Visitor and staff routes that remain necessary.
Films, graphics or special surface treatments Known restrictions or faults requiring separate attention.
Unusual deposits needing assessment Who can resolve a change before work proceeds.

The table is a coordination aid. It does not replace a site assessment or establish that an alternative route or operating arrangement is suitable. Those decisions should be made through the relevant site and contractor processes for the actual entrance.

Consider the entrance beyond the central doors

Reception glazing can include side panels, an inner lobby, partitions and a canopy. Name each area separately if it is wanted. Do not assume a clean of the central doors includes elevated canopy glass or an entire lobby. The reception-glass service provides the main route, while canopy-glass cleaning raises a separate surface and access discussion.

Known films and graphics need to stay visible in the scope. If a panel carries safety markings, signage or an applied treatment, explain that rather than assuming every mark on the glass is unwanted residue. Removal, replacement and product care are different questions from routine cleaning of the agreed surfaces.

Test a hypothetical appointment plan

Imagine a managed office arranging entrance-glass cleaning while reception remains active. The coordinator identifies the glass faces, obtains the relevant product instructions and names the person responsible for the door system. That person confirms what arrangement can be considered for the entrance and its users. If a fault appears before the visit, the coordinator updates the cleaner and seeks the appropriate service response.

An incomplete plan would leave the cleaner to press controls, improvise a door setting or redirect visitors without the agreed site arrangement. The aim is to remove that uncertainty before arrival, not to provide a generic operating instruction that may be wrong for the installation.

Keep the final note concise: included glass, known surface treatments, current restrictions and the authorised contact. If the entrance has been replaced or its operating arrangements changed since an earlier visit, retire the old instructions rather than carrying them forward automatically. Door servicing and any formal system checks remain distinct. This gives the cleaning enquiry a clear purpose while ensuring the entrance's operation is considered by the people responsible for it.
